Use of WP by Taliban on Western Forces reprehensible

After using WP themselves, and supplying it to Israel to drop on Palestinians, now the US military are complaining about it being used against them.

Right-wing news sources usually say stuff like: “White phosphorus is not banned by any treaty that the United States has signed.”

That’s because the US doesn’t like to sign any international treaties that might get them in trouble. Like the International Criminal Court.

Taleban fighters have been using deadly white phosphorus munitions, some of
them manufactured in Britain, to attack Western forces in Afghanistan,
according to previously classified United States documents released
yesterday.

Last night the US military in Kabul condemned the use of white phosphorus by
the insurgents as “reprehensible”. White phosphorus is banned as an
offensive weapon under international rules of armed conflict.

Major Willis confirmed that the US and Nato’s International Security
Assistance Force used white phosphorus in Afghanistan but never as an
anti-personnel weapon. “That’s not allowed under the terms of international
law,” she said.

US forces accused of using phosphorous bombs on civilians

AFGHANISTAN’S leading human rights organisation is investigating claims that white phosphorus was used during a deadly battle between US forces and the Taliban last week in which scores of civilians may have died.

Dr Mohammad Aref Jalali, the head of an internationally funded burns hospital in Herat, said villagers taken to hospital after the incident had “highly unusual burns” on their hands and feet that he had not seen before.

“We cannot be 100 per cent sure what type of chemical it was and we do not have the equipment here to find out. One of the women who came here told us that 22 members of her family were totally burned. She said a bomb distributed white powder that caught fire and then set people’s clothes alight.”

Cat Stuffed Into Bong To Chill Out, Owner Faces Charges

A man who tried to cool out his hyper cat by stuffing her into a boxlike homemade bong faces cruelty charges. The owner told cops 6-month-old Shadow was hyper and he was trying to calm her down.

Shadow was timid but in good condition Monday at the Capital Humane Society. “What the human mind doesn’t invent, huh?” executive director Bob Downey said.

The homemade bong, consisting of a piece of garden hose attached to a duct-taped plexiglas box

No word if the cat has the munchies.

Leonard Nimoy recalled a recent encounter with a fan.

Chinese ship crew moon the US Navy – continued

According to The Telegraph, the soldiers mooned the Navy crew – now I’m not sure if they just dropped their pants or went all the way. As more information is made available, I’ll keep you updated with this important piece of news.

In what a Pentagon official described as a “bizarre” incident, Chinese crew members on board one vessel bared their bottoms after the USNS Impeccable had sprayed them with hoses.

The Chinese have responded to the US allegations of harassment, saying it is the US that is harassing them by conducting illegal surveying in China’s special economic zone, AND it suggests the U.S. “do more things beneficial to the stable development of China-U.S. relations. “

I think the U.S should be careful if they don’t want China to increase their interest rate.

The Impeccable did not carry large-caliber weapons and was operated by civilians for the Military Sealift Command, Pentagon officials said.

The surveillance mission, focused on undersea warfare, may be of particular interest to the Chinese military, which has invested heavily in a new fleet of diesel-powered attack submarines.

Pentagon officials say that while the diesel variety is not as potent as the Navy’s nuclear fast-attack submarines, the submarines are cheaper and can be purchased in greater numbers, giving the Chinese the potential to overwhelm American defenses at sea.

Is their some Chinese symbolism in dropping your pants? And is it reasonable for the Chinese to tell a US spy boat to take a hike in the South China Sea? Would the US tell a Chinese spy boat to leave if it were in the Gulf of Mexico?

The tension on the high seas took an odd turn at one point when the Americans sprayed water at the Chinese boats and the crew responded by stripping to their underwear.

“Because the vessels’ intentions were not known, Impeccable sprayed its fire hoses at one of the vessels in order to protect itself.

“The Chinese crewmembers disrobed to their underwear and continued closing to within 25 feet (8m),” said the Pentagon statement.

The 20m (66ft) Dignity was carrying 15 civilian passengers, including several doctors, journalists, a former US congresswoman and a member of the Cypriot parliament, says Free Gaza.

The organisation sent out an urgent statement on Tuesday saying the vessel had been surrounded by at least six Israeli military ships.

“They are firing live ammunition around the Dignity, and one of the warships has rammed the civilian craft causing an unknown amount of damage,” said the statement.

“We heard heavy gunfire in the background before all contact was lost with the Dignity.”

The Dignity’s captain, Denis Healey, told reporters in Tyre they had been attacked “without any warning, any provocation, or anything”.

Free Gaza said the incident was “an act of terrorism”, as well as a violation of international maritime law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Crowds turned out to greet the Dignity as it arrived in Tyre port.

Robert Fisk is one of my favourite commentator son the Middle East.

Well worth reading if you are following this news topic.

General Yaakov Amidror, the former head of the Israeli army’s “research and assessment division” announced that “no country in the world would allow its citizens to be made the target of rocket attacks without taking vigorous steps to defend them”. Quite so. But when the IRA were firing mortars over the border into Northern Ireland, when their guerrillas were crossing from the Republic to attack police stations and Protestants, did Britain unleash the RAF on the Irish Republic? Did the RAF bomb churches and tankers and police stations and zap 300 civilians to teach the Irish a lesson? No, it did not. Because the world would have seen it as criminal behaviour. We didn’t want to lower ourselves to the IRA’s level.

THE Australian Defence Department has admitted it has more than 85,000 pages of documents regarding the rendition of former Guantanamo Bay detainee Mamdouh Habib to Egypt despite telling federal parliament it had no involvement in the matter.

The Howard government always maintained that it did not know Mr Habib was going to be sent to Egypt or how he got there.

But the latest admissions by Defence follow revelations earlier this year that the US Government told former ASIO head Dennis Richardson that it wanted to render Mr Habib to Egypt for questioning.

Mr Richardson had never publicly admitted the official approach was made. It only came out after his successor, Paul O’Sullivan, was questioned in parliament.

Mr O’Sullivan revealed that Mr Richardson was told of the rendition plan by a US government official weeks before the Sydney father of four was “kidnapped” and sent to Egypt, where prisoners were known to be tortured.

Yep, according to this story in The Age, Australia’s ambassador to Italy, Amanda Vanstone allowed a Mafia crime figure remain in Australia
after his supporters donated thousands of dollars to the Liberal Party.

According to the story in The Age, until Vanstone’s intervention, Madafferi had spent nine years
fighting moves by Australian authorities to deport him after he
overstayed his visa. His lawyers cited mental illness and the fact that
he had an Australian wife and four young children among their arguments
for allowing him to remain.

Late last week, Ms Vanstone defended her decision, saying she had had concerns for Madafferi’s mental health.

Condoms ‘too big’ for Indian men

There is a “lack of awareness” over condom sizes

A survey of more than 1,000 men in India has concluded that condoms made according to international sizes are too large for a majority of Indian men.

The study found that more than half of the men measured had penises that were shorter than international standards for condoms.

It’s not size, it’s what you do with it that matters
