Reading all these victorious reports of US victory in Najaf made me wonder how big a cock up it was. US troops and civilians do not mix. Any arab is a target in a warzone, whether they be 20 years old or 2.
According to http://www.iraqbodycount.net/ there have been between 11510 and 13483 civilian casualties in Iraq. I remember that Afghanistan had similar numbers.
Searching Lycos, I came across alot of images of child victims in Iraq, though not many for Najaf.
Here is a picture from Najaf:
U.S. soldiers aim their guns as Iraqi civilians flee their homes
for safety during a day of heavy gun battles in the holy city of Najaf
in southern Iraq on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004. U.S. forces launched a
major offensive to crush a militia loyal to radical Shiite cleric
Muqtada al-Sadr. The fighting between U.S. forces and al-Sadr’s Mahdi
Army militia began here a week ago and has spread to other Shiite areas
of the country. (AP Photo/Hadi Mizban)
